The 2014 FIFA World Cup Final was a football match that took place on 13 July 2014 at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to determine the 2014 FIFA World Cup champion. The final was played between Germany and Argentina. After the 1986 and 1990 finals, this was the third final between the two countries, a World Cup record.
Before the match, Germany had reached the World Cup final seven times (six times as West Germany from 1954 to 1990), winning three (1954, 1974, 1990) and losing four (1966, 1982, 1986, 2002); Argentina had reached four finals, winning twice (1978, 1986) and losing twice (1930, 1990). Germany won the match 1–0 after extra time, the defining moment coming when Mario Götze collected André Schürrle's cross from the left on his chest before volleying left-footed into the net.

The result marked Germany's fourth World Cup title, their first since German reunification and their first win outside Europe. Germany's victory meant that three consecutive World Cups have been won by teams from the same continent, following Italy and Spain in 2006 and 2010 respectively, the first time this has happened in World Cup history. Germany are also the first European side to win a World Cup hosted in the Americas. Miroslav Klose, who had become the top scorer in World Cup history in the semi-final thrashing of Brazil, thus became the seventh player in history to have finished in first, second and third place with his national team at a World Cup.The two teams had met in 20 previous matches, with 6 wins for Germany, 5 draws, and 9 wins for Argentina. The Brazil v Germany football match that took place on 8 July 2014 at the Estádio Mineirão in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, was the first semi-final match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Both teams reached the stage with an undefeated record in the competition. The game ended in a shocking loss for Brazil; Germany led 5–0 at half time, and they eventually won 7–1. Germany's Toni Kroos was selected Man of the Match. The event was administered by CONCACAF officials led by Mexican referee Marco Rodríguez.
Germany's win marked the largest-ever margin of victory in a FIFA World Cup semi-final. The game also saw Germany score the most goals in World Cup history, their 223 overtaking Brazil's 221. Their second goal meant Germany's Miroslav Klose reached 16 World Cup goals, overtaking Brazil's Ronaldo as the tournament's all-time record goalscorer. Brazil's loss broke their 62-match home unbeaten streak in competitive matches going back to 1975, when it lost 1–3 to Peru in that year's Copa América, and equalled their biggest margin of defeat, a 6–0 loss to Uruguay in 1920, leading it to be described as a national humiliation.
